June 29, 2023 - I am thrilled to announce I am a recipient of the 2022 Lucian Rudaux Lifetime Achievement in Space Art Award! I recently received the beautiful award which is a blown glass sphere with blue and sparkling swirls mounted on a glass base. My thanks to all the people who voted for me to receive this honor!

Inspired by photos of the icy Elcano Montes taken by the New Horizons spacecraft,
this view imagines a mountain range at another location on Pluto where - unlike
the Elcano Montes - Charon would be visible in
the sky.
On Pluto, methane frost does not fall as snow, it
condenses
on
only the
highest peaks. Made of rock-hard water ice, the Plutonian rocks and mountains are colored reddish brown by hydrocarbon
particles drifting down
from the thin,
hazy blue atmosphere.

"I’m very pleased to announce that Marilynn Flynn, FIAAA has been selected as a recipient of the
2022 International Association of Astronomical Artists (IAAA) Lucien Rudaux Memorial Award. The
purpose of the Lucien Rudaux Memorial Award is to recognize significant contributions to the field
of astronomical art or space art and the advancement of the genre. The Rudaux Award is not limited
to members of the IAAA or to artists, but allows recognition to be paid to collectors, editors,
curators, art directors, writers, etc., who may have made a significant contribution to the
development, dissemination and/or appreciation of space art. Master space artist Marilynn Flynn's
artwork has appeared in numerous books, magazines, TV programs, DVDs, science exhibits, art
shows and websites. Her artwork is known for its realistic portrayal of planetary landscapes with
emphasis on the human element of space exploration. The IAAA is proud to salute Marilynn Flynn
for her achievements, which have significantly contributed to the advancement of space art.
