ASTERIA REGIO © 1985

The Asteria Regio is located near an area which scientists believe is a possible site of volcanic activity on Venus. The volcano in the foreground lies dormant, quietly venting gases while another in the distance shakes the ground with a violent eruption. Streaks from volcanic flows are visible on its flanks. The lightning strikes recorded on Venus seem to be clustered around areas which appear to be volcanos and may be related to eruptions.
Published in "Odyssey Magazine", "The Library of the Universe", "Moons and Planets" by W.K. Hartmann, original painting is in the collection of Dr. William K. Hartmann.
