ARABIA TERRA TWISTER © 1999
A dust devil swirls through Arabia Terra on Mars. Sand sweeps around the bases of craggy mesas and buttes in this area located at 16° latitude, 311° longitude. On the left the eroded remnants of an ancient impact crater emerge through the dunes near a dry wash where water once flowed thousands of years ago. Dust devils on Mars can reach heights of 5 miles and leave tracks up to 50 feet wide.
*note: if you ignore the mesquite & greasewood shrubs, this scene looks an awful lot like the view out my backyard, including the dust devil!*
